"It's important to excel at what you are doing even if that isn't the ultimate goal."

As children, we're all asked the question "What do you want to be when you grow up?" How did you answer?

A professional hockey player. I fell significantly short of that goal.

What have been the most defining moments along your career path?

Taking a risk to leave a group I felt was not functioning properly.

How did you get your big breaks?

It's important to excel at what you are doing even if that isn't the ultimate goal. If you want to do something else at your firm, first get better at what you are doing. Opportunities arise all the time, and just being known as someone who is competent and cares about what they do will get you a lot of breaks that others might view as "lucky breaks".

What was the best advice you received when you were first starting out in your career?

Enjoy yourself.

What have you learned from your experience?

That no day is ever remotely similar in trading.

What would you like to have achieved by the last day of your career?

To have the resources to do what I want without worry, and be surrounded by the important people in my life.
