"In college, in my senior year, I had no idea what I wanted to do."

As children, we're all asked the question "What do you want to be when you grow up?" How did you answer?

I wanted to be an architect. I really liked to draw things, and I really liked to point at buildings when driving in my Mom's car. What better way to draw and point at buildings at the same time than to be an architect. Plus it really sounded smart.

What have been the most defining moments along your career path?

In college, in my senior year, I had no idea what I wanted to do. I learned about investment banking early that year, and did my homework on the various banks that came on campus to recruit. I realized that delving into the nuts and bolts of corporate finance in my first job would be the best way to start my career, and every subsequent job and experience (business school) has evolved from that first decision.

How did you get your big breaks?

Personal relationships and networking. Without fail.

What was the best advice you received when you were first starting out in your career?

Always replace your divot and repair your ball marks.

What have you learned from your experience?

You are solely responsible for the decisions you make. Be accountable.

What most excites you about your job right now?

In school now, and that is more exciting than any job.

What would you like to have achieved by the last day of your career?

A nice gold watch... and personal fulfillment. Either, or really.
