Amoco Production Company

"I enjoy volunteering my time to encourage students to pursue degrees in engineering..."

As children, we're all asked the question "What do you want to be when you grow up?" How did you answer?

I had an interest in science. I never let the fact I'm a woman stand in the way when people dismissed me. I believed women have a vital role in this field.

What have been the most defining moments along your career path?

I volunteered with the Colorado Minority Engineering Association (CMEA/MESA) where I had numerous opportunities to spend time with children in activities geared toward increasing their interest in science-related fields.

How did you get your big breaks?

After graduating with honors with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering degree from The University of Colorado at Boulder, I began working full-time with Amoco Production Company, where I had interned five summers.

What was the best advice you received when you were first starting out in your career?

Invest the time in an internship because it is an increadibly enriching experience.

What have you learned from your experience?

I'm living proof that women can find success in the engineering field.

What most excites you about your job right now?

I enjoy volunteering my time to encourage students to pursue degrees in engineering. It's been a great field for me and I hope I can pass along that enthusiasm to others about how great it is to work in the Energy & Utilities today.
