Event Planner

Get the inside track from an Experience Insider.

As children, we're all asked the question "What do you want to be when you grow up?" How did you answer?

I wanted to be the life of the party and now I get paid for hosting them.

How did you get your big breaks?

I saw an ad in the newspaper and sent in my resume. A few weeks later I was called in for an interview. I met the VP of Marketing and she offered me the job that very day.

What was the best advice you received when you were first starting out in your career?

Keep your options open and keep an open mind. You never know where an opportunity can take you. Be nice to people on the way up, they're the ones you'll meet on the way down.

What have you learned from your experience?

Planning events is hard work but also one of the best jobs you can have. I started out as a Marketing Assistant and then moved into organizing events for the company. There are so many events to plan, I'm always busy no matter what time of year it is. In the winter we have a Holiday event, and in the summer, we have an employee summer trip. In between, we have various product lauches and milestone events that need to be coordinated along with events for clients and tradeshows. It's a busy life, but I love it.

What most excites you about your job right now?

You're constantly having communication with your managers. When you're doing something good, you get rewarded right away. When you're doing something wrong, they also tell you right away, so it's nothing that you continue to do.

What would you like to have achieved by the last day of your career?

I'd like to have fond memories of a long career doing a job I loved. Oh, and being well known for having some of the most dazzling parties would be great too!
