How did you get your big breaks?

I got my start through a friend. She set me up with an interview with the head of the Reference division with her company.

What was the best advice you received when you were first starting out in your career?

What have you learned from your experience?

Editorial Assistants do a lot of menial work, it's not glamorous. Job descriptions don't begin to say all the different tasks you will be called upon to do. You learn how to deal with people, how to be politically and socially correct, how to work a room, diplomacy.?

What most excites you about your job right now?

In publishing, you are surrounded by smart people, it's like a continuation of college. I enjoy being around books, getting free books, meeting interesting and smart people. It's fun dealing with authors, though some of them are bothersome.?

On a scale of 1-10, how relevant was your academic major to your career? (1=not at all, 10=absolutely essential)
