Andrew MacKay
Bioprocess Engineer

"I made a decision to take a job with Antigenics as a Bioprocess Engineer."

What have been the most defining moments along your career path?

I had several offers from excellent companies. I made a decision to take a job with Antigenics as a Bioprocess Engineer.?The position they offered me had a lot more responsibility than positions at other companies. At other places, I would have been just another worker in a large group. With this job offer, I had the opportunity to spearhead the effort.

How did you get your big breaks?

I went through the interviewing process, and I found this company, and it seemed like they wanted me here. It seemed like an interesting place, where I'd have a lot of freedom to do some interesting stuff with responsibility.

What was the best advice you received when you were first starting out in your career?

Speak up about what you can do, and what you can't. Be honest.

What have you learned from your experience?

Teamwork is beneficial for results. I work with people who do similar things with cells and tissue cultures. We hand off cells between each other. They have skills, and I use what they can do, and they use what I can do.

What most excites you about your job right now?

I really like having the responsibility that I have here. I think that's the best thing.

What would you like to have achieved by the last day of your career?

I don't think it's set in stone. I'm planning on going to graduate school in a couple of years to study biomedical engineering.
