Pravin Kalpage
Consultant

"The people are great! But the hours are insane. I'm gaining tons of experience."

What have been the most defining moments along your career path?

Made a decision to go into consulting. It really was a process of elimination- I didn't want to go into baking because of the hours and I didn't want to be an engineer. Consulting seemed a way I could have elements of both.

How did you get your big breaks?

Recruiters came to my school. I met several different companies and interviewed with two.

What was the best advice you received when you were first starting out in your career?

Practice for case interviews- show up prepared to think on your feet and to demonstrate your thought process outloud. Represent yourself clearly and effectively- communication skills are key.

What have you learned from your experience?

Getting lots of experience dealing with business problems.

What most excites you about your job right now?

It's great to be on two cases because of the exposure to lots of different sorts of business issues, but at the same time, you can easily get overloaded with the workload- if both cases have a crunch time at the same time then it can get really crazy. The people are great!!! But the hours are insane. I'm gaining tons of experience.

What would you like to have achieved by the last day of your career?

Hope to start my own business.
