71% of Alumni Fall Short of Career Goals
When talking about their career history, many professionals will say they never anticipated doing their current job. As might be expected, some are pleased with how things turned out, many others are not.
When asked if they achieved their career goals, an overwhelming 71% of alumni in a recent survey responded "no", with a mere 2% saying "yes".
The results from last month's Experience newsletter survey show that while half of the alumni are happy with their overall career choice, 62% of respondents want to return to school. Thirty-five percent simply want to change companies, and those wanting to change industries altogether comprised 34% of responses.
Why are alumni looking for change? Or why aren't they where they thought they'd be after graduation?
A few respondents cited salary as a motivating reason to switch companies or industries. Others felt they didn't possess any differentiating skills or the work wasn't challenging enough.
As for those who aren't where they thought they'd be post-graduation, several cited unrealistic job expectations and unanticipated obstacles as causes.
